In this presentation, I will talk about getting the all necessary software and talk about it from my point of perspective and I hope I will bring you to a closer understanding of successful creating your own music or beats.
I am a simple kind of person, I mean I'm always trying to keep things simple and powerful at the same time. What that means? That means I'm not going to overload you with a bunch of useful add-ons or samples, not because it is not needed but because for basic learning how to create quality beats that is absolutely not important.
What is important is to understand what is the main cog in creating your own music and that is to first listen as many various artist and styles as you can but not just listen to them but try to bring your concentration on a specific segment of the beat (drums, keys....).That will give you a vast of different perspectives and will fill you with knowledge vital for creating good and quality music. Don't be scared to try different things, feel free to mix all kinds of genres at first just so you can see the power of mixing different styles and also to notice that drum mainly sets music style of every beat/instrumental/song.
So if that's the case it is a good way to start with creating your main drum loop that will drive your song. I personally use Addictive drums 2 plugins with Fruity Loops 12, there is Ez-drummer as an alternative to Addictive but really there are no real differences between them, it all depends on personal choice. In both plugins, there are various pre-created drums loops that you can use or modify at your will. You can choose between different sets of drums and set levels of each drum component to achieve the desired sound. I strongly recommend making intro sequel as quickly as you finished with the main rhythm that will drive song on because later you will be occupied with too many things aside of drums and it will be hard to go back on start and make that song start. When your drums are ready you can decide whether you will make a bass line or main song melody first. That depends on kind of music you are trying to create but my personal choice is to start with bass line first because bass line is deeply connected with drum sequence and it is easier to define that symbiosis without other sounds that can drive your focus off. That's just my choice, it doesn't need to go exactly like that. Many people have the main melody in their head and that should be the starting point for them. So if you are going to stick with my way then you have the choice to go with "boo bass" or some of five versions of bass instrument that can be founded in packs/instruments/bass. It is always good to have some more bass plug-ins aside but I believe this basic set given by Fl studio is more than enough if you know how to set proper mastering props on the bass line.
When we talk about the main melody of the song then we are talking about practically any instrument you find adequate to define your song, from guitar to piano or some harmonics, it doesn't matter, you must guide yourself with your ears and feeling for music. It is important to keep things simple because even if you are capable of making something fabulous be aware that most people are not achieved that level of complexity with their ears so if you make a maze with your main melody your song will go unnoticed, believe me ;)
One more thing! Be aware that your ears can get tired after some time so don't force yourself to finish your beat/instrumental from one attempt, save your work for later then get back to it and finish what you have started filled with fresh energy and ideas, all in all don't be hasty, be thorough and as I've said before, keep things simple ;)
Till next time...
